Sita Ramam (2022) is a Telugu-language period romantic drama directed by Hanu Raghavapudi. Set against the backdrop of the 1964 Kashmir conflict, the film follows Lieutenant Ram (Dulquer Salmaan), an orphaned army officer stationed at the border. After an interview with All India Radio, where he reveals his lack of family, Ram receives numerous letters from across India. Among them is one from Sita Mahalakshmi (Mrunal Thakur), who claims to be his wife. Intrigued, Ram embarks on a journey to find her, leading to a poignant love story intertwined with themes of identity, duty, and the human cost of conflict.
The narrative unfolds across two timelines: the 1960s, depicting Ram and Sita’s blossoming relationship, and the 1980s, where Afreen (Rashmika Mandanna), a Pakistani student, is tasked with delivering a letter from Ram to Sita. As Afreen delves into their story, she uncovers the profound impact of their love amidst the turmoil of war. The film explores the complexities of human emotions, transcending national boundaries and religious divides. With its rich cinematography, evocative music by Vishal Chandrasekhar, and compelling performances, Sita Ramam offers a timeless tale of love and sacrifice.
