First Shift (2024)

Summary:

First Shift is a 2024 American crime drama directed by Uwe Boll, marking his return to feature filmmaking after an eight-year hiatus. The film follows veteran NYPD officer Mike, portrayed by Gino Anthony Pesi, who reluctantly partners with rookie Angela, played by Kristen Renton, on her inaugural day patrolling Brooklyn’s perilous streets. Their 12-hour shift exposes them to a series of violent crimes, including a mob-related homicide that threatens their lives. Amidst the chaos, they unexpectedly bond over rescuing a lost dog, adding a heartfelt dimension to their harrowing day.

Filmed on location in New York City in March 2023, “First Shift” features supporting performances by James McMenamin, Willy C. Carpenter, Brandi Bravo, and Daniel Sauli. The movie premiered at Germany’s Independent Days International Filmfest on April 10, 2024, and was released in the United States and Canada on August 30, 2024. Despite Boll’s intention to showcase a “kinder, gentler” side, the film received mixed reviews, holding an IMDb rating of 4.3/10 based on 1,800 user votes.
