Vallavanukkum Vallavan (2023) is a Tamil-language action-comedy film directed by Vijay Tesingu, featuring Bobby Simha and Karunakaran as two conmen who believe that money can solve all their problems. The duo embarks on a series of elaborate scams, impersonating figures like Che Guevara and Vasco da Gama’s grandson to swindle various individuals, including a forgetful communist veteran. Their escapades take a turn when a deranged policeman, portrayed by Anandraj, begins to pursue them, complicating their final mission to loot a corrupt minister. The film also stars Sshivada and Pooja Devariya, who bring depth to the narrative through their interactions with the protagonists.
Despite its intriguing premise and moments of clever writing, the film received mixed reviews. Critics noted that while the characterizations and certain heist sequences offered novelty, the overall screenplay lacked the necessary punch to keep audiences fully engaged. Bobby Simha’s performance was highlighted as a standout, showcasing his versatility in one of his better roles since Assault Sethu. However, the film’s delayed release—having been completed in 2016 but released in 2023—may have diminished its impact, making it feel outdated in a genre that has evolved over the years.
